Fullerton (April 19, 2018) – Fullerton College will celebrate the work of entrepreneurs during National Small Business Week by connecting students with business and education leaders during the 2nd annual Small Business Day on Friday, May 4. The event is free and open to the public.

The U.S. Small Business Administration launched National Small Business Week in 1963 to recognize the impact of outstanding entrepreneurs, small business owners, and others from across the nation. Fullerton College’s Small Business Day invites local business leaders and entrepreneurs to come out and network with each other and future student entrepreneurs.

“Small Business Day brings thought leaders from business and education together to strengthen the pipeline of future entrepreneurs,” said Business Management/Entrepreneurship Professor Gary Graves.

The event starts at 8 a.m. with a light breakfast, coffee, networking and introductions.  At 9 a.m., Cathleen Greiner, Ph.D., Deputy Sector Navigator, Business and Entrepreneurship, will provide brief updates on the California Community Colleges’ Doing What Matters initiative and entrepreneurship programs state-wide. Sylvia Gutierrez, with the Small Business Administration (SBA), will speak on the state of small businesses today. Terri Olson, CEO of HR Prescription, will provide insights and information in her presentation “New HR Laws and Your Business!” and Jennifer Merchant, with Fullerton College’s Career and Life Center, will discuss how employers can participate in the college’s Internship Program to recruit students. The event will end with a keynote from Mike Marinoff, COO, Network Kinection, LLC, who will speak on “The Gig Economy and How We Got Here.”

Partners for Small Business Day include Doing What Matters, U.S. Small Business Administration, HR Prescriptions and Network Kinection, LLC.

The event will be held, Friday, May 4 from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Building 1400, Room 1413.
