Fullerton College loves Fullerton every day. But that love will be stepped up on April 30 when the college participates in the annual community service day known as Love Fullerton. The college will be organizing a collection for the FC Food Bank, recruiting at least 100 volunteers and will be the location of the afternoon barbecue.
Modeled after the successful Love Modesto, Love Fullerton launched in 2013. In the past three years, the impact of Love Fullerton has grown so much that the cities of Anaheim, Brea, Buena Park, Placentia and La Habra will simultaneously launch their own Love events on April 30.
“Love Fullerton creates a wonderful opportunity for us to invest in Fullerton to keep our community strong,” said President Greg Schulz. “I encourage our students, faculty and staff to participate this year.”
Love Fullerton brings together more than 20 churches, city government, the mayor and City Council, the chief of police, local businesses, service organizations, public and private education and local residents to work together to enhance living and working in Fullerton. Its mission is to demonstrate kindness, meet needs and impact lives together. The organization is planning for 2,500 volunteers serving at more than 70 different work projects.
Alumni, students, faculty, staff and alumni are encouraged to volunteer for one of many service projects that range from collecting food donations for the Chris Lamm & Toni DuBois-Walker Memorial Food Bank at Fullerton College, to graffiti removal, to landscaping projects, and many others throughout the city. Volunteer signups and other details about the day are available at www.lovefullerton.org. The first 100 participants from the college to sign up are eligible to receive free Fullerton College sunglasses, (please see details below).
There are many service projects to choose from for volunteers of all ages. However, the service project titled “Fullerton College Food Bank Collection’” on the Love Fullerton website will directly benefit Fullerton College students. Twenty volunteers are needed to assist in a food collection at two local grocery stores. The Chris Lamm & Toni DuBois-Walker Memorial Food Bank provides critical support to students.
