Hornet Speech and Debate Victorious During Winter Break Tournaments

Over winter break, Fullerton College sent five competitors to participate in two separate speech and debate tournaments: The Great Salt Lake Invitational at the University of Utah and The Hannie Schaft Invitational at Southwestern College.

Britton Lee showed how smart and hardworking Hornets can be by finishing third place in persuasive speaking and fourth place in informative speaking, besting a field of 12 colleges and universities, including the University of Utah and the University of Texas, Austin.

At the Hannie Schaft Invitational, the debate team of Danielle Hyslop and Osvlado Coutino, debated national health insurance policy and finished fifth place against a field of universities from across the West Coast.

These speech and debate students demonstrated the passion and commitment of Fullerton College this winter break. Fullerton College congratulates them on an excellent showing. Go Hornets!

The team resumes competition again on Feb. 2 to 4 at the Winter at the Beach tournament hosted by CSU Long Beach. The Fullerton College Speech and Debate team is coached by Jeff Samano, Toni Nielson and Jeanette Rodriguez. Students interested in joining the team for spring 2018 should enroll in Communication Studies 138.
