Active Shooter Drill on April 11 to Help Test Emergency Preparedness

Fullerton College will hold its annual active shooter emergency drill at 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, April 11. The drill helps test emergency communications and preparedness and will be initiated by the Office of Campus Safety.

Beginning at 10:15 a.m. students and employees on campus will hear a live announcement delivered through the landline phones (Cisco) located throughout the campus. At that time, people on campus will be directed to shelter-in-place for the lockdown drill. During the drill, participants will learn what they should do in the event of an active shooter on campus. Students and staff will view a 20-minute educational video on active shooter situations and then discuss preparation methods in their classrooms or offices.

Emergency communications systems will also be tested by the Office of Campus Communications at 8:30 a.m. on April 11. All students and staff will receive a text message, voice message and email informing them of the drill later that morning.

How to Prepare

  • Staff and faculty should check and adjust their Cisco phone’s volume to a high setting, ensuring it is not set too low or muted, to guarantee the drill announcement can be heard.
  • Preview the video to be shared on April 11 titled, “Shots Fired on Campus”
  • Review the Office of Campus Safety active shooter emergency plan.
  • Review and update your contact information in MyGateway to ensure you receive the phone, text and email alerts for the drill and future emergencies.

Students or staff who are on campus grounds when the active shooter drill is started will be asked to go inside the north gym or building 200 until the drill is complete. Campus safety officers will patrol the campus and signs will be posted directing people to these buildings.
