2024 Sexual Assault Awareness Month
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), marking a time for the campus community to honor survivors of sexual violence and raise awareness through education, reflection and action. In recognition of this year’s theme “Building Connected Communities”, Fullerton College will hold a range of events in collaboration with students, staff and community partners in the collective pursuit to end violence in our communities.
The campus recently celebrated the Clothesline Project on April 9 in the quad. In partnership with the Fullerton College Sociology Club and Waymakers of OC, the Clothesline Project showcases a collection of stories in the form of t-shirts designed by survivors and individuals who have lost a loved one to violence. This event empowers survivors to share their experiences through the healing expression of art and creativity.
Fullerton College is also participating in another significant initiative, Denim Day. Originally founded in 1999 by Peace Over Violence, the Denim Day campaign aims to amplify the wearing of jeans as a symbol of protest against sexual assault. Students and faculty are encouraged to wear jeans on Denim Day on Wednesday, April 24.
The Cadena Cultural Center will host a Denim Drive from Monday, April 22 through Wednesday, April 24. Participants may donate gently used denim jeans to the light blue donation boxes in the Cadena Cultural Center (Building 500, Room 512-02) or at the Fullerton College Library Main Desk. Items will be donated directly to The Hanger (Career Closet), or a local women’s shelter to support awareness of domestic violence.
Join Fullerton College in celebrating Sexual Assault Awareness Month as we work together to take swift action in the prevention of sexual violence in our communities.
