FC Art Gallery Presents SIGNS
Fullerton College Art Gallery will unveil its first exhibition of the year with SIGNS on Thursday, Feb. 9, and will run through March 15.
The latest gallery installment displays the art of sign-painting, hand-lettering, and fine writing/calligraphy. The exhibition features an eclectic group of artists, including local professional sign painters, legendary calligraphers, and contemporary artists who incorporate signs and lettering into their work. The artists range from Jeanine Hernandez, a young and talented sign-painting student at LA Trade Tech, to Ed Ruscha, one of the most celebrated and subversive contemporary artists living in Los Angeles today.
“My mentor, Wayne Thiebaud taught from the understanding that there should be no hierarchies among artists and craftsmen of all kinds, and that excellence is excellence no matter the medium or area,” said Art Gallery Director Vonn Sumner. “This exhibition attempts to put that philosophy into practice.”
Even guests have an opportunity to be artists. An interactive element of the exhibition gives students and guests a hands-on opportunity to try out some of the art techniques on display. SIGNS also provides students and gallery guests with exposure to artistic possibilities and career options.
The opening reception will be on Thursday, Feb. 9 from 4–6 p.m., with many featured artists attending. Pizza will be available for attendees.
Admission is free. The Fullerton College Art Gallery is open Monday-Thursday from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and 2-4 p.m. beginning on Monday, Feb. 13, and will run through Wednesday, March 15. The FC Art Gallery will be closed during campus closures, including Monday, Feb. 20.
