Marcia Foster Selected as Fullerton College’s Senior Coordinator of Athletics
Fullerton College is pleased to welcome Marcia Foster as the Senior Coordinator of Athletics. Foster has been a faculty member in the Department of Physical Education at Fullerton College since 2013. In her new role, Foster will lead two department committees, Gender Equity in Athletics and Athletic Facilities.
After retiring from a 32-year career as a women’s basketball coach, including assistant coaching at Arizona State, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and Cal State Fullerton, and head coaching positions at Caltech, Cal State Fullerton, and Fullerton College, Foster is looking forward to her first year in a new role as the Senior Coordinator of Athletics.
Her passion for serving the community and equipping young people has led to the creation of various projects throughout her career, including I’ll Tell 2 (for breast cancer awareness), Team Together (connecting student-athletes with faculty members), ALL In! (service projects on behalf of athletics, including a campus food drive), Run it Back (women’s and men’s basketball teams cancer research fundraiser), Socks and Sweats (clothing drive for local charities), Gold Games (galvanizing faculty, staff, and students to attend home games), and Hornet Live (a Zoom program co-created during the pandemic to keep student-athletes and coaches connected and informed). Her commitment to outreach and mentorship has led to involvement with Special Olympics, Big Sister Reading Program, Shooting Stars Basketball, and KinderCaminata.
An ally for marginalized and underserved populations, and an advocate for student well-being, her membership on committees, including Faculty Senate, the Diversity Advisory Committee, the Student Equity and Achievement Committee, and various hiring committees, allows her to actively lobby for change. Being honored by Cal State Fullerton’s Alliance for Preservation of African Consciousness (APAC), for mentoring African American male students, and for serving on the Takeoff Team for Men of Color at Fullerton College, has solidified her efforts to foster equity, visibility, inclusivity and a sense of belonging for all.
A native of New Jersey, Foster attended Seton Hall University on a basketball scholarship, and graduated with top-ten career stats and a bachelor’s degree in communications. She later received a Master of Science in Kinesiology from Cal State Fullerton, and is currently pursuing a certificate in creative writing from UCLA. She is a proud member of the Class of 2012 Plainfield High School (NJ) Hall of Fame.
An accomplished spoken word artist, writer, and speaker, Foster is passionate about taking advantage of her platform and ability to connect with people from all walks of life by investing in and fostering positive relationships, especially with young people, understanding it takes a village to raise a child.
Foster will begin her new role on reassigned time from teaching as the Senior Coordinator of Athletics starting September 15.
