FC Renames Student Health Services and Food Bank

Two key student support services will be renamed due to campus efforts to better reflect the services offered.

“Names matter,” said Vice President of Student Services Sonia De La Torre. “By adopting welcoming and inclusive language for these centers, we aim to increase student use of vital care resources while reducing stigma.”

Student Health and Wellness Center

Student Health Services is now the Student Health and Wellness Center, following the results of a student survey and collaboration with campus partners.

“The renaming of our Student Health and Wellness Center reflects direct student feedback and more accurately represents the holistic wellness support available,” said De La Torre.

The Student Health and Wellness Center is located on the first floor of the Student Support Center in room 108.

Established in 1956, the Student Health and Wellness Center is a comprehensive health service providing medical, mental health and health education for students. From primary care and urgent care services delivered by a medical team to licensed mental health practitioners who provide one on one therapy sessions and some group sessions, there is a variety of services available at the center.

Medical and mental health services are available at no cost to students but there may be minimal fees for some items. These services are designed to help students adjust to college life, cope with personal changes, gain self-awareness and address psychological concerns. Students may meet with a licensed mental health professional for an initial screening and evaluation to determine how the student’s mental health needs can best be met.

Chris Lamm and Toni Dubois-Walker Memorial Food Pantry

The Chris Lamm and Toni Dubois-Walker Memorial Food Bank will now be known as the Chris Lamm and Toni Dubois-Walker Memorial Food Pantry, a subtle but important change intended to better reflect the center’s mission and purpose.

“The Chris Lamm and Toni DuBois-Walker Memorial Food Bank at Fullerton College has been a beacon of hope for students facing food insecurity,” says Rena Martinez Stluka, director of admissions and records. “The name change to ‘food pantry’ aligns not only with the past and present, but also the future goal to provide vital resources to even more Fullerton College students.”

The Chris Lamm and Toni Dubois-Walker Memorial Food Pantry is located on the first floor of the Student Support Center in Room 102.

Located in the Student Support Center, the food pantry provides supplemental food support to students experiencing food insecurity, offering fresh produce, shelf-stable foods, canned goods, snacks, hygiene products and diapers.

The food pantry is named in honor of Chris Lamm, a passionate faculty member and advocate for students, and Toni DuBois Walker, a cherished administrator, student mentor and champion for access and basic needs support. Their legacy lives on through the food pantry and the support it provides to students and the campus community.
