FC Debaters Capture Multiple Awards During Halloween Tournament

Fullerton College debaters captured multiple awards at the CSUF-Fullerton College National Educational Debate Association Halloween “Swing” Tournament on Oct. 30 and 31.

On Friday, Joseph Phillips and Cynthia Jimenez and teammates Daniel Boughter and Matt Adams finished in first and second place, while Michael Wu and Zach Turner received fourth place. Boughter and Phillips were first and second Speaker. In Novice division, Ball State University of Indiana captured top team, while Cypress College’s Saed Hussein was the top speaker.

On Saturday, Kitiny Phumchun and Iris Chu took first in team debate, edging second and third place teams from Ball State. Boughter and Adams won fourth, while Phillips and Jimenez were fifth. Teora Mimms of Ball State was top speaker, and Fullerton finished 2-3-4 with Phumchun, Chu, and Boughter.

Fullerton College won the combined 2-debate Sweepstakes award, outpacing 2015 National Champion Ball State and Cal State Fullerton.
