Fashion Event Connects Students with Industry
The Fullerton College Fashion Department recently hosted Fashion Du Jour, a networking event designed for students to showcase their work and gain feedback from industry professionals. The event drew fashion design and merchandising students, parents, industry professionals, and local high school students interested in the Fashion Design program at Fullerton College.
“This was an important event for our students,” said fashion instructor Michelle Craner. “We had a wide variety of industry professionals involved in both judging and speaking that helped strengthen industry partnerships within our local community and gave students the opportunity to meet and build professional relationships with each industry professional.”
Students enrolled in fashion design courses including Introduction to Fashion Industry and History of Costume, were given the opportunity to have their garments and boards judged by some of the top local industry professionals and hear expert advice from guest speakers.
Guest speakers of the event included, Renee Rogers, owner and designer of 16th Colony and Kelsey Beisel, product developer for RVCA. Representatives from apparel companies Hybrid Apparel, Kiyonna, Obey Apparel, Dragon Crowd, and JS Apparel judged the competition and networked with students.
FC students Bryant Perez and Ana Hernandez both received first-place recognitions for their trend boards, while Monica Arce and Samantha Flores took second.
Best of Show was awarded to Tanya Aldana; Best Construction went to Marielena Mondragon, and Zachery Powell earned the award for Best Recycled Accessory. Marissa Jack took first place for her History of Costume modern adaptation board, while Lynda Warner received second place for a toga-inspired board.
“This was the best industry event for fashion students to network with local apparel companies,” said Fashion Department Coordinator and Instructor Renee Young.
