FULLERTON (MARCH 28, 2016) – Fullerton College’s Veterans Resource Center will host the 2nd annual Veteran’s Career and Resource Fair on Thursday, April 7, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the campus quad. Nearly 50 organizations will be present to connect veterans, dependents of veterans, students, and community members to services offered within the surrounding community and the college. The free event is open to all veterans, students and the community.

Participating groups include US Foods, Orange County Conservation Corps, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, North OC Vet Center, Horizon Support Services and more. Additionally, numerous Fullerton College departments will host information tables to offer on-campus support and resources available to all students.

Aghabi Rangel, office coordinator at the Veterans Resource Center, created this event last year in response to her own experience enrolling in college following her service in the Navy. After her honorable discharge, she encountered many obstacles in her reintegration process. Last year’s event proved successful in connecting more than 800 veterans and dependents of veterans to vital resources and opportunities in the community. This year the event expands its reach to all students and opens the event to the community as well.

“Because our community plays such an important role in the reintegration process,” Rangel said, “We feel it’s important for all veterans, students, and community members to support one another; creating opportunities for career-growth and connecting one another to resources that support our veterans.”

Fullerton College is home to more than 1,200 veterans, dependents of veterans, active duty service members, and reservists. Fullerton College’s Veterans Resource Center, located in Building 500, Room 518, acts as an on-campus resource providing workshops and events for student-veterans year-round. The center provides a study lounge, a full-time academic counselor for Student Educational Plans (SEPs), a full-time certifying official, a mental health psychologist courtesy of U.S. VETS, free tutoring in math and English, and staff who are knowledgeable about GI Bill benefits.

In the event of rain, the Veteran’s Career and Resource Fair will be held on Tuesday, April 12.

The Veterans Resource Center is open Monday and Thursday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Tuesday and Wednesday, 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.; and Friday, 8 a.m. – noon. Hours may vary depending on the needs of students. For more information, e-mail: veterans@fullcoll.edu, call 714-992-7102, or visit veterans.fullcoll.edu.
