FC Debate Team Takes First Place in Community College Sweepstakes at Aztec Invitational
The Fullerton College Speech and Debate Team participated at the Aztec Invitational hosted by San Diego State University on Oct. 7 and 8. The Hornet debate team finished first place in the community college debate sweepstakes division; this award is determined based on the collective success of a debate program entered in the tournament. Fullerton College bested local schools such as Irvine Valley College, Palomar, and Orange Coast.
The team of Osvaldo Coutino and Danielle Hyslop along with teammates Evan Jensen and Jennifer Perry advanced to semifinals in the novice policy debate division. Coutino, Perry, and Jensen earned third, fourth, and fifth place top novice individual speaker awards respectively. Fullerton College racked up wins against local rivals CSU Fullerton and CSU Northridge. It was a great season opener tournament.
The team resumes competition again on Nov. 4 at California State University, Fullerton. The Fullerton College Speech and Debate team is coached by Jeff Samano, Toni Nielson and Jeanette Rodriguez.
