Fullerton College Competitors Take Top Awards at CSUF Blumer Tournament

Fullerton College competitors took top awards at the 25th Cal State Fullerton Blumer Speech and Debate Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 4. In the novice debate division Fullerton College’s Loaloa Elnaeb and James Redgrave took first place with a 4-0 record. Gev Artsrounian and Will Hernandez took second place while Eduardo Bautista and Fernando Molina took third place with both teams acquiring a 3-1 record. Fullerton College also dominated top novice debate speaker awards as Gev Artsrounian, Naveen Kanal, and Loaloa Elnaeb took first, second and third place speaker respectively. In the open/varsity debate division the Fullerton College team of Evan Jensen and Jennifer Perry took third place, with Perry receiving a third place speaker award.
In individual events Fullerton College’s Akayla Cadena took home second place in interpretive events while teammates Kayla Vautrin, Priscila Rodriguez, and Danielle Montano took first, second and third place speaker awards respectively in impromptu speaking. In persuasive speaking Britton Lee finished first place while teammate Pauline Villafan finished third place.
The team resumes competition again on Nov. 10-12 at California State University, Northridge. The Fullerton College Speech and Debate Team is led by faculty coaches Jeff Samano, Jeanette Rodriguez, and Toni Nielson.
