Speech and Debate Team Earns Multiple Awards at PSCFA Fall Championships

Fullerton College sent nine competitors to participate in the Pacific Southwest Collegiate Forensics Association (PSCFA) Fall Championships on December 2 and December 3.
In individual events, Britton Lee finished second place in persuasive speaking besting a field of 14 colleges and universities. Hornet teammate Akayla Cadena finished second place in program of oral interpretation with wins over eight colleges, including Azusa Pacific University. Debate tournament highlights included victories over Mt. San Antonio College and Cypress College.
Students spoke on a wide range of contemporary issues from sexual consent to North Korean foreign policy over two days of intense competition. Participation brought students from 37 colleges and universities to the three-day tournament, including CSU, Fullerton, Northern Arizona State University, and UC Irvine.
The team resumes competition again in the spring. The Fullerton College Speech and Debate team is coached by Jeff Samano, Toni Nielson and Jeanette Rodriguez. Students interested in joining the team in the spring of 2018 should enroll in Communication Studies 138.
