1,500 Kindergartners to Visit Fullerton College
Nearly 1,500 energetic and excited kindergartners will visit Fullerton College on Friday, March 8 for the 24th annual KinderCaminata. The event inspires children to begin thinking about higher education and careers in the early stages of their education.
More than 70 kindergarten classes from Anaheim Elementary, Fullerton, and La Habra City school districts will enjoy over 40 hands-on learning experiences presented by Fullerton College students, faculty, and staff.
Nearly 350 faculty, staff, and student volunteers will assist at career stations throughout the campus, in the main quad, classrooms, labs, and athletic fields. The career stations are a fun and interactive way to expose children to a plethora of careers. Career stations will include the “Drone Lab” sponsored by the Journalism Department, “Laser Cutting Buzzy Goggles” hosted by the Printing Program and “It’s All About the Brain,” facilitated by the Psychology Department.
The annual event has achieved its mission for the last 24 years by adopting Cesar Chavez’s “Si Se Puede” (Yes you can; it is possible) motto. In many cases, KinderCaminata provides an opportunity for children to step onto a college campus for the very first time.
In addition to the event itself, children are participating in a week of classroom lessons and activities to learn about Cesar Chavez and what his motto can mean for their own lives.
