Fullerton College Launches New App
Students and prospective students can now navigate the Fullerton College campus with more ease than ever before thanks to the launch of Fullerton College Mobile, a new college app that provides a consolidated place of all essential information and services that students need to be successful.
The new official college app is available for download in the iOS and Android stores. The app presents key resources related to academic support, student life, health and wellness, safety, and more. An interactive Google map and self-guided tour create ease while students find their way on the 83-acre campus. Newsfeeds from the Fullerton College News Center, Athletics and Fine Arts, as well as social media accounts, are consolidated giving a one-stop-shop for all happenings on campus.
“Using intuitive design, the app is deceptively dense with information to help students navigate college life,” said Lisa McPheron, director of campus communications. “Fullerton College Mobile is also an agile tool that can be adapted and expanded based on how the college community wants to use it.”
First-time freshmen may use the app to check their Promise Program status to assure their tuition is waived. Students may also use the app to:
- Sign-up for Buzzy Bites, which are push notifications when there is free food on campus
- Check their grades
- View their class schedule
- See any holds they may have
- Access the student portal MyGateway, Canvas, online class schedule and calendars
- Search for all academic and support programs at the college
- Find specific buildings, gender-neutral bathrooms, parking lots, hydration stations, lactation room and more with the robust map tool
This launch of Fullerton College Mobile is considered Phase One. Phase Two will most likely include more options for push notifications based on students’ interests, and specialized personas for prospective students, community members, students, and employees.
Fullerton College Mobile is built using Modo Labs software, which is an enterprise-scale mobile engagement and communication platform. The college community selected Modo Labs in the spring of 2019 after hearing presentations from three app software providers. The app is funded by the North Orange County Community College District.
The principal UX designer on the project is Web Content Specialist Jazmin Zuniga in the Office of Campus Communications. McPheron and Dr. Eddie Roth, Fullerton College’s director of Disability Support Services, provided project management. The app was widely tested throughout October 2019 with four focus groups and multiple days of drop-in-focus groups, where any member of the college community could test the app.
