Many Ways to Support Students During the Holidays
Every year during the holidays, the Fullerton College community comes together to spread love and generosity to the Fullerton community and more specifically, to students and their families. Though this year may be different and some traditions have been modified, the tradition of providing support to students during the holidays is still top of mind. A variety of Fullerton College programs have created modified opportunities for faculty, staff and the community to support students and their families this holiday season.
Adopt-an-Angel Holiday Event
This wonderful 24-year tradition hosted by the CARE, CalWORKs and FYSI staff provides an opportunity for faculty and staff to “adopt” a child of a parent(s) participating in one of the listed programs. The event will not be hosted with the traditional in-person activity, but instead hosted through a drive-thru on Saturday, Dec. 12. Faculty and staff are invited to begin “adopting” children online starting Nov. 2, and drop off gifts during one of the Healthy Hornet Drive-Thru dates in November. Read this flyer to learn more about Adopt-an-Angel.
Ethnic Studies and MEChA Fall Harvest Fundraiser
Every year for the past 51 years, the MEChA student club of Fullerton College has collaborated with the Ethnic Studies Department to collect and distribute seasonal food and gift cards for the annual Fall Harvest. This year will be a little different since many students are already being provided with food through the college’s Healthy Hornet Drive-Thru. The college’s partnership with Pathways of Hope and Sodexo will provide some regular and seasonal food during the week of Thanksgiving, however MEChA and the Ethnic Studies Department is seeking to supplement this effort by collecting grocery or Visa gift cards to be distributed to students during the Healthy Hornet Drive-Thru.
Donations of any amount can be dropped off between through Nov. 24 during one of the Healthy Hornet Drive-Thru dates or at the Library Returns Book Drop. The Fall Harvest distribution will take place on Nov. 24. Read this post on Instagram for details.
AGS and PSBC Hygiene Kit Drive
Students of Alpha Gamma Sigma and the Political Science Book Club have teamed up to help families in the Fullerton community by providing personal necessities. The group is asking for a variety of donations including hand sanitizer, shampoo, menstrual products, etc. and are looking for volunteers to help assemble hygiene kits for families living in Pathways of Hope shelters. Donations may be dropped off at Pathways of Hope’s Hub of Hope located at 611 S. Ford Ave., Fullerton on Thursdays or Fridays between 9 and 11 a.m. To see a list of items needed and to volunteer, complete this form.
Volunteer with Pathways of Hope to support the Healthy Hornet Drive-Thru
Through a partnership with Pathways of Hope, the Fullerton College Food Bank has been able to serve more than 8,200 students at the Healthy Hornet Drive-Thru since the pandemic began. This could not be done without the generous support of volunteers who consistently show up weekly to prepare bags of groceries and serve students. Consider volunteering your time this holiday season. Volunteers cannot be current students. Sign up here.
