A Message from the President
Dear Campus Community,
Throughout our communities and at colleges and universities across the nation, it has been a challenging time as we continue to process the election. This has been one of the most unique election cycles in our nation’s history, and the divisive nature of the recent election season and the days that have followed have left many people with feelings of anxiety and uncertainty about the future. I know from visiting with our students last week that many are experiencing fear and concern about the future. Many of our faculty and staff have been listening to and supporting our students, and I want to thank each of you for doing what you can to provide support and assistance to our students and each other as our nation begins to look ahead to the future.
I want to emphasize that Fullerton College has been and will continue to be a safe place for all who seek to learn here and for all who work here. At Fullerton College, we take pride in serving our community as a welcoming, inclusive learning institution. The diversity of our college is one of our greatest assets. As each of our students, faculty and staff come together each day to make the Fullerton College experience possible, we support each other and we will continue to do so in the days and weeks ahead.
It is important that our students know that we are here to support each and every one of them and we are prepared to offer a variety of support services. Our Fullerton College Health Center provides all students with access to psychological counseling support. In addition, Fullerton College offers support services for our undocumented students. Please call or visit our Counseling Division and ask to speak with someone about Dream Act resources.
I also wanted to make you aware of some opportunities available to our students over the next week. This Thursday, November 17, a post-election discussion will take place at 3:30 p.m. in room 1440, moderated by Professors Jodi Balma, Aline Gregorio and Mohammad Abdel Haq. On Friday, November 18 the Ethnic Studies department is hosting the “Salud y Revolution (Health and Revolution) event, where students can participate in discussions, offering yet another safe place to discuss and share concerns. Students are encouraged to meet on the quad throughout the event from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Finally, a President’s Open Forum has been scheduled for Monday, November 21 at 2 p.m. in rooms 224/226/228. This topic will be a key item of discussion and conversation.
As we begin this week, I want to thank you in advance for treating all members of our campus community with kindness. I am proud of the work that each of you are doing throughout our campus, and I am grateful for the opportunity to exemplify how a college campus community can model kindness and understanding for our nation.
Sincerely,
Greg
