Active Shooter Drill on March 29 Will Help Test Emergency Preparedness
On Wednesday, March 29 at 10:15 a.m., Fullerton College will participate in an active shooter emergency drill. The drill will be conducted to help test emergency communications and preparedness and will be initiated by the Office of Campus Safety.
Beginning at 10:15 a.m. students and staff on campus will hear a live announcement delivered through the Cisco phones located throughout the campus. At that time, people on campus will be directed to shelter-in-place/lockdown, view an educational video on active shooter situations, and then discuss preparation methods in their classrooms and offices.
The Office of Campus Safety has designed an Active Shooter Emergency Plan which can be viewed under the Emergency Preparedness link on the Campus Safety website. During the drill, students and staff will be asked to watch the video titled “Shots Fired on Campus.” The video is about 20 minutes long and can be viewed at the Campus Safety website or view the video here.
Anyone ranging from students to employees to guests who are outdoors on campus when the active shooter drill is initiated will be asked to lockdown in the North Gym or the 200 Building until the drill is completed. Campus safety officers will be patrolling the campus and signs will be posted directing folks to these buildings.
“Our campus community is encouraged to prepare for this type of incident,” said Director of Campus Safety Steve Selby. “It is through preparation, planning, and drills that we can make ourselves and our campus safer.”
In addition, the Office of Campus Communications will test the emergency communications system on March 29 at approximately 8:30 a.m. All students and employees will receive a text message, voice message, and email informing them of the drill that morning. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to update their contact information in myGateway to assure the delivery of all communications.
