Active-Shooter Drills Set for April 14
On Thursday, April 14 Fullerton College will participate in active-shooter emergency drills during the morning and evening.
At 10 a.m. and again at 7:30 p.m. people on campus will be asked to lockdown, view an educational video on active-shooter situations, and then discuss preparation methods in their classrooms and offices. Live broadcasts delivered through the Cisco phones located throughout campus will announce the start and finish of the drills.
During the morning drill, Fullerton College will also test its emergency communications system. All students and staff will receive text messages, voicemails and e-mails. Employees and students are encouraged to review and update their phone numbers and email addresses listed in MyGateway by April 11 to ensure they receive alerts during the drill.
During the drill, all students and staff on campus will be asked to view a video on active-shooter situations titled “Shots Fired.” The video can be found at http://campussafety.fullcoll.edu. The video requires FC credentials and can only be viewed from a Fullerton College computer. At the end of the drill, students and employees will receive another set of messages notifying them that the drill has concluded.
While a real threat may be much different than a drill, the key to minimizing the number of casualties in an active-shooter situation is knowing how to respond. The Office of Campus Safety has designed an Active Shooter Emergency Plan which can be viewed at http://campussafety.fullcoll.edu under “Emergency Preparedness.” Students and employees are encouraged to review the plan and actively participate in the drill on April 14.
Any questions regarding the drill can be directed to the office of Campus Safety at (714) 992-7081.
