Annual Active Shooter Drill Happening April 24

Fullerton College will hold its annual active shooter emergency drill at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 24. Initiated by the Office of Campus Safety, the drill helps test emergency communications and preparedness.
Beginning at 10 a.m., students and employees on campus will hear a live announcement delivered through the Cisco landline phones located throughout campus. At that time, students, faculty and staff will be directed to shelter-in-place for the lockdown drill. During the drill, participants will learn what they should do in the event of an active shooter on campus. The Fullerton Police Department will also be there to observe the drill and conduct a walkthrough of the campus.
Students and staff will view a 20-minute educational video on active shooter situations and then discuss preparation methods in their classrooms or offices. Students in class will watch this video with their instructor and students who are not in class at the time of the drill will be asked to go to the North Gym to watch the video.
Emergency communications systems will also be tested by the Office of Campus Communications at 8:30 a.m. on the day of the drill. All students and staff will receive a text message, voice message and email informing them of the drill later that morning.
How to Prepare
- Staff and faculty should check and adjust their Cisco phone’s volume to a high setting, ensuring it is not set too low or muted to guarantee the drill announcement can be heard.
- Preview the video titled, “Shots Fired on Campus,” that will be shared with the campus community on April 25.
- Review the Office of Campus Safety’s active shooter emergency plan.
- Review and update your contact information in MyGateway to ensure you receive the phone, text and email alerts for the drill and future emergencies.
