Annual KinderCaminata Welcomes Kindergartners to Explore College and Careers

An annual beloved tradition which brings together kindergartners from local elementary schools to explore college and career options will return to Fullerton College on March 6. The event known as KinderCaminata, celebrates Cesar Chavez’s “Si Se Puede” (Yes you can; it is possible) motto by planting seeds of education at an early stage using lively demonstrations and hands-on learning experiences.

“I’m honored to be part of such a long-standing tradition that has grown over the years to include hundreds of faculty and volunteers who are committed to instilling the importance of a good education to young learners in our community,” said KinderCaminata Coordinator Mellissa Hafer. “This year, we have some exciting demonstrations planned that include art, science, engineering and so much more.”

The event will welcome close to 1,500 kindergartners from three different school districts in the area, Hafer said. Anaheim, Fullerton and La Habra City School Districts are among the districts slated to bring students for a half-day of hands-on learning. New demonstrations, such as SpaceCaminata, presented by Fullerton College’s Alpha Gamma Sigma, will take kindergartners through a NASA and space exploration activity, while the Fine Arts Division and Music Department will introduce young minds to careers in music with a Kinder Symphony presentation.

Other favorites will include hands-on learning in fields such as marine biology, physical education, chemistry, art, and ceramics. Hafer said there will be more than 35 activity stations, numerous guest speakers, and over 200 volunteers helping out across the campus.  In addition, kindergartners have been learning about the life and accomplishments of Cesar Chavez in the weeks leading up to KinderCaminata.
