Business and CIS Division Launches New eDiscovery and Technology Specialty Certificate

The Business and Computer Information Systems (CIS) Division at Fullerton College recently launched its new eDiscovery and Technology Specialty Certificate. An American Bar Association (“ABA”) approved professional development opportunity, this new certificate blends legal expertise, technology skills and cybersecurity knowledge to prepare students for the modern workplace.

“The development of this exciting new certificate was collaborative and inspiring.” said Paralegal Studies Professor, Michael Moore. “In the process, I learned so much about what CIS folks do and just how much overlap there is between our disciplines. I was so inspired by this process that I not only took a CIS class over the summer, but I also plan on completing this certificate as a paralegal graduate myself.”

Designed for current and returning students interested in law or pursuing Paralegal Studies and technology, the certificate also aims to boost the skills, knowledge and resumes of working professionals who seek promotion.

“Launching this certificate prepares individuals to take on leadership roles in technology-driven legal environments while positioning them for upward mobility in a field that values technical fluency alongside traditional legal expertise.” said CIS Professor, Anna Carlin.

This 15-unit certificate combines legal applications, computer information systems and cybersecurity to prepare students and graduates for roles where technology and law intersect.

To earn the certificate, students must take the following classes:

  • Project Management Skills: CIS 120 F
  • Database Management: CIS 142 F
  • Cybersecurity Fundamentals: CYBR 106 F
  • eDiscovery and Legal Software Applications: PLEG 215 F
  • Law Office Management: PLEG 225 F

Please note, this certificate is not a substitute for an ABA-approved Paralegal Studies Certificate and does not, on its own, prepare students to work as a paralegal.
