Dean Carlos Ayon to Lead Fullerton College Dual Enrollment Efforts
Dean of Business Carlos Ayon has been selected by President Cynthia Olivo to provide support to the College’s Dual Enrollment Program efforts. Ayon will work with the faculty lead in Educational Partnerships and Outreach and co-chair for the new Dual Enrollment Committee, Rolando Sanabria along with director of Educational Partnerships, Ericka Adakai.
“Together, this trio of leaders will have the support of the new faculty committee, the staff in Educational Partnerships, and the team in Outreach,” said Dr. Cynthia Olivo.
Ayon will serve as the liaison to the K-12 District officials and attend meetings with the school district personnel as needed to ensure Fullerton College is connecting the dots in operations, Olivo said.
Sanabria will continue to lead efforts to ensure parents and students in the surrounding K-12 districts are aware of dual enrollment opportunities and will provide support with the enrollment process. Adakai will also continue to provide support to campus divisions and departments ensuring Fullerton College meets deadlines which are critical to the success of the program and reporting requirements for the state.
“I’m grateful to the entire campus for their efforts in ensuring we have solid relationships with our K-12 partners, the parents, and students in the district,” said Olivo. “Dual Enrollment is a way to ensure we open the doors of opportunity and make an impact for generations of people -right here in our community.”
Overwhelmingly, the students in dual enrollment courses in the last five years reflect the diversity of the College’s own student body – with Latina/o/x/e, APIDA (Asian Pacific Islander Desi American) and Black students enrolled in high numbers and earning an average 3.0 GPA while saving money and time, and most importantly, understanding that they are college material, Olivo said.
Data provided by the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, demonstrates that students who participate in dual enrollment are more likely to register at Fullerton College upon graduating high school.
“What a remarkable achievement Hornet family! Let’s keep buzzing along making a difference in our community,” said Olivo.
