Dr. Carlos Aguirre Named Director of Academic Support Programs (MESA)
Fullerton College is excited to welcome Dr. Carlos Aguirre as new Director of Academic Support Programs (MESA) in the Division of Natural Sciences.
Dr. Aguirre’s wealth of experience in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) research and education has sculpted him into a strong, student-centered leader. Throughout his academic and neuroscience research journey, he participated in numerous Natural Science Foundation (NSF) and National Institute of Health (NIH) funded programs for underrepresented groups in STEM. This fueled his passion for bridging STEM research, education and outreach by striving for equity and inclusion of diverse students. His STEM programs management career journey also consists of having worked for NASA’s Office of STEM Engagement, Huntington Medical Research Institutes and Cerritos College.
Before joining Fullerton College, Dr. Aguirre was MESA Director at Cerritos College, where he built the MESA program from the ground up. He earned his bachelor’s in pharmaceutical sciences from UCI, and a master’s and doctorate in chemical and biological sciences from The Scripps Research Institute.
Dr. Aguirre began his role on Aug. 1.
