Dr. Flor Huerta Announced as Dean of Counseling and Student Development

Dr. Flor Huerta, who has been with Fullerton College for 25 years, was selected for the permanent role of Dean of Counseling and Student Development.

Dr. Huerta has a wealth of experience at Fullerton College where she spent three years as a classified staff member, 22 years as a counseling faculty member and most recently, as interim dean of counseling for the past seven months. She also served as interim dean of counseling at Cypress College.

Dr. Huerta served two terms as coordinator of the counseling department, where she led the creation of the guided exit process, making graduation steps easier and increasing racial equity and degree conferrals. As a faculty leader, she also launched Major Declaration Day to help “undecided/undeclared” students choose their majors. Additionally, Dr. Huerta created a collegewide event to celebrate first generation college students, fostering a sense of belonging and encouraging faculty, staff and administrators to share their first-generation stories to inspire and motivate students.

Because of her leadership experiences, Dr. Huerta was selected to help lead the Hispanic Serving Institution Transformation Team alongside national expert Dr. Gina Ann Garcia. This committee was formed through our shared governance process in fall 2023 and has been making significant progress this year.

Dr. Huerta’s ability to improve services, remove barriers for students, collaborate with other departments and lead lasting change made her the perfect fit for this role.

Please congratulate Dr. Huerta as our new Dean of Counseling and Student Development.

Dr. Flor Huerta
