Dr. Kim Orlijan Selected as Dean of Humanities
Fullerton College welcomes Dr. Kim Orlijan as the permanent new dean of Humanities.
After serving 16 years at Fullerton College as an English professor, Puente co-coordinator, Faculty Senate president, and interim dean of Humanities, Orlijan is excited to embark on this next phase of her career. Orlijan earned her B.A. in English with a minor in Women’s Studies and an M.A. and Ph.D. in English, all from the University of California, Riverside.
In addition to leading efforts to raise awareness about anti-racism and establishing taskforces to make action-oriented recommendations to eliminate racial equity barriers, Orlijan has provided leadership to change placement and enrollment practices in the English Department.
Fullerton College has received statewide recognition as a 2023 Champion for Excelling in Equitable Course Placement for campuswide English Enrollment, Latina/o/x Student English Enrollment, and Black Student English Enrollment by the Campaign for College Opportunity. More information about the award is available here.
“Dean Orlijan has provided excellent leadership and I know we will only continue excelling from here,” said President Cynthia Olivo.
Pending board approval, Orlijan will begin her permanent role on July 1, 2023.
When Olijan is not busy at work, you can find her cooking vegetarian meals, running, hiking, traveling, and simultaneously enjoying and lamenting her recently emptied nest with her spouse, an English faculty member at another community college.
