Dr. Nick Arman Recognized as Community College Counselor of the Year

Fullerton College Counselor Dr. Nick Arman has been recognized as the 2019-2020 Community College Counselor of the Year by the Orange County Department of Education. Dr. Arman was honored virtually at the OC Counselor Symposium last fall.

“Dr. Arman is dedicated to our student veterans, military-affiliated students, his colleagues, and the Fullerton College community. Not only does he give 150 percent to the students served by the VRC, but he is also highly involved and engaged in his collaborations with other departments, student clubs, and colleagues across campus. This is a very well-deserved recognition and we are thrilled,” said Dr. Elaine Lipiz Gonzalez, dean of Student Support Services.

Dr. Arman joined Fullerton College in 2015 and has more than 20 years of experience working with veterans. He is a veteran of both the U.S. Marine Corps and the Army National Guard, and is a combat veteran of the Iraq War.

Prior to his current role, Dr. Arman worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs as a readjustment counselor with prior academic advising and counseling experiences at different levels of higher education such as CSU Northridge and Los Angeles City College. Serving as the faculty coordinator of the Veterans Resource Center, and as the VP for Region 8 Veterans Program Directors Consortium he actively advocates for legislative changes in support of student success. He also enjoys teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in organizational leadership at Brandman University and Nobel University.

Dr. Arman has an associate’s degree from Los Angeles Pierce College, and earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology and master’s degree in counseling with emphasis in college counseling and student services from CSU Northridge. His doctorate is in education with a concentration in organizational leadership from Brandman University.

Due to COVID-19, the Orange County Department of Education honored all 2019-2020 recipients during a virtual ceremony at OC Counselor Symposium last fall where this video, featuring Dr. Arman’s remarks were shared.

“The timing comes perfect as it is National School Counseling week,” said Dean of Counseling, Dr. Jennifer LaBounty. “Fullerton College routinely has counselors recognized for this award.”
