Fashion Department Presents 3rd Annual Fashion Showcase

The Fashion Department is excited to present its 3rd annual Fashion Showcase on May 3–4, marking its first in-person event since Spring 2019. This year, fashion students designed and created garments reflecting the theme “Technology in Fashion,” which celebrates technology and advancements in the fashion industry. Students were encouraged to incorporate technology in their materials, the garment creation process, or other methods.

More than 30 fashion students’ design work will be featured in the showcase. Their designs highlight their use of sustainable garments or design-related projects representing today’s technology, including 3D printing, upcycling, novel fabrics, LED fabrics, textile dyes, and virtual clothing animation.

Fashion design student Sofia Gillespie is one of several students whose work will be featured at the fashion showcase. At first, the garment creation process seemed impossible to Gillespie until she had created her final garment. “I chose to up-cycle two garments using different techniques such as patchwork and split & spread method,” said Sophia. “I used tulle from a skirt, denim from old jeans and pants, and leather.”

Beginning May 1, a Digital Fashion Event website will become available and will showcase all of the fashion students’ design work.

The fashion showcase will be displayed on the ground floor of Building 2400 on May 3 from 12–8 p.m. and May 4 from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. The fashion showcase is free and open to the public.
