FC Debaters Take Top Awards at Hornet Invitational

Fullerton College debaters prevailed against teams from Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Maritime at the Spring 2017 Hornet Invitational hosted by Fullerton College on Friday, Feb. 10.

In the open division, Fullerton College’s team of Alyssa Aguilar and Kitiny Phumchun finished first place with a perfect 3-0 record and earned first and second place speaker awards respectively.

In the novice division, Fullerton College’s team of Ryan Gunthier and Luis Gudino finished fourth place and earned sixth and eighth place speaker awards respectively.

Fullerton College alumni, Zach Turner and Joseph Philips were also recognized for their outstanding leadership and commitment to building Fullerton College’s speech and debate team. Turner and Philips were awarded a box set of communication studies journals for their service.

The Fullerton College forensics team now prepares for the “Spring Swing” Debate Tournament hosted jointly by Fullerton College and Cal State Fullerton on March 3 and 4.
