On Wednesday November 9, The Fullerton College Music Department hosted the Thirty-Second Annual Invitational High School Choral Festival. The festival started in 1984 by current Dean of Fine Arts John Tebay.
Each year on the second Wednesday in November, twenty-five to thirty choirs come together to share music. The festival runs for one day which is broken up into three sessions where the choirs are adjudicated. At the end of each session the award-winning Fullerton College Concert Choir or Fullerton College Chamber Singers perform, as a glimpse into the caliber and high quality education students receive at Fullerton College.
The intent of the festival is to recruit students to the music department. At first, only the top high school choirs of Orange County were invited to participate in the festival. Now, the invitations extend to choirs in five different counties including Los Angeles County, Orange County, Riverside County, San Bernardino County and San Diego County.
“Through the years many students have attended Fullerton College due the festival.” said Tebay. Among one hundred-thirteen community colleges, the Fullerton College Music Department is now the largest two-year music program in the state.
