Fullerton College Celebrates Grand Opening of Puente Center

Fullerton College celebrated the grand opening of its new Puente Center on Sept. 12 with music and dance, a ribbon cutting ceremony and tours of the new space. The Puente Center, located in Building 100, Room 122, upper level, will continue to support Latinx and underrepresented students by offering a learning community, mentoring services and more.

The grand opening invited Las Cafeteras, a Spanglish rock, hip-hop and ranchera band from East Los Angeles, for a lively performance to kick off the event.

Later in the day, heartfelt remarks were shared by President Dr. Cynthia Olivo, North Orange County Community College District Chancellor, Dr. Byron D. Clift Breland, Dean of Counseling and Student Services, Dr. Flor Huerta and Fullerton College Puente program alumni, Anthony Monroy. Among the event’s guest speakers was also award-winning novelist, Reyna Grande.

Attendees gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by tours of the center. Students in the Puente program, also known as ‘Puentistas,’ were invited to explore the space and its resources.

Puentistas toured the space in groups and were gifted a copy of Reyna Grande’s memoir, “A Dream Called Home.”
