Fullerton College Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

Beginning Sept. 14 through Oct. 26, Fullerton College will join sister colleges of North Orange County Community College District to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. The events planned throughout the month are held in collaboration with the Latino Faculty & Staff Association, NOCCCD Office of Diversity & Compliance, Cypress College, and North Orange Continuing Education.

An Opening Kickoff celebration to Hispanic Heritage Month begins at Cypress College on Sept. 14 at 10 a.m. Fullerton College festivities will begin with a Building Dedication for Cruz Reynoso Hall (Building 200) on Sept. 14 at 4 p.m.

Cruz Reynoso broke barriers as a lawyer, jurist, law professor and the first Chicano California Supreme Court justice. Reynoso began his higher education journey at Fullerton College after he attended Fullerton Union High School. He was devoted to student services and was the first Chicano elected as Associated Student President at Fullerton College. During his lifetime, Reynoso was an outspoken advocate and activist for social justice on behalf of immigrants and farm workers. A contemporary and friend of Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta, he used his law expertise to fight for the rights of farm workers and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2000.

The Building Dedication on Sept. 14 will conclude a year-long fundraising campaign that began in 2022 to raise awareness of Reynoso’s legacy and historical significance to Fullerton College.
