Fullerton College Debaters Take Top Awards at Robert Barbera Debate Invitational
Fullerton College debaters prevailed against teams from Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Northridge at the Spring 2016 Robert Barbera Debate Invitational hosted at Northridge on Saturday April 23. Fullerton completed sweeps in both team debate and speaker awards.
Fullerton College’s Michael Wu earned the top speaker award, edging out teammates Ryan Martinez (second) and Ryan Gauthier (third). Zach Turner took fifth speaker.
The final round was between two undefeated Fullerton College teams with Wu and Martinez clinching the first place award and $500, while teammates Kitiny Phumchun and Iris Chu finished second place and won $250. Turner and Gauthier completed a 1-2-3 Fullerton sweep.
The Fullerton College forensics team now prepares to travel to Cal State Fullerton for the Blumer Speech and Debate invitational on Saturday, May 7. The team is coached by Doug Kresse and Jeff Samano.
