Fullerton College Honors African American History Month

Fullerton College is proud to honor African American History Month with a series of campus-wide events designed to inspire, educate, and engage the campus community throughout the month of February.

To kick off the events and in the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s call for community service, the Cadena Cultural Center and Associated Students will host the 2nd annual CommUNITY Day celebration and fair on Tuesday, Feb. 14. This collaborative effort brings together clubs, programs, services, and local organizations to emphasize the importance of community and unity. The event will be held on the quad from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will feature art, music, and a resource fair for students to connect with service opportunities.

On Thursday, Feb. 16, the Cadena Cultural Center and Umoja will co-host the 3rd annual African American Forum. This year’s forum focuses on the theme “Sharing Our Stories.” The entire campus community is invited to participate. The forum will take place from 12 – 1:30 p.m. in Building 200, Room 224.

The Beat Café Open Mic Night also returns to the list of events planned this year. This popular event features performances by Fullerton College poets, singers, and musicians in a small and intimate setting. The Beat Café takes place Tuesday, Feb. 28 from 4 – 7 p.m. in the Student Center.

Lastly, the Cadena Center and Ethnic Studies will host a trip to Leimert Park Village in Los Angeles on Friday, Feb. 24 for a walking historical tour. Leimert Park Village is home to many retailers and venues that offer a rich African American cultural experience. An RSVP is required to attend.
