The Fullerton College Speech and Debate Team in partnership with the North Orange County League of Women Voters hosted the first ever Civil Discourse Day on Thursday, July 12 in the College Center. The event included over 120 Fullerton College students along with community members from several Orange County cities that held round table discussions on several important city, state, and federal issues. Some of the topics included discussions on universal health care, concealed carry permits, minimum wage, sanctuary state policy, homelessness, and the gas tax.

The evening also underscored the importance of communicating civilly when debating ideas among those that we disagree with. Speech and debate students served as table moderators facilitating discussions among participants throughout the entire evening. All students in attendance were also offered free memberships to the North Orange County League of Women Voters and were encouraged to attend other events taking place this year.
