Fullerton College Introduces New Bachelor of Science in Drones and Autonomous Systems
Fullerton College will officially be launching its first-ever Bachelor of Science in drones and autonomous systems in Fall 2026. The college’s first and only bachelor’s degree in existence, the program will provide students with the education, knowledge and hands-on experience to embark on an exciting career in the rapidly growing field of drones and autonomous technology.
A ground-breaking, affordable option, the degree program offers a combination of theory and hands-on practice in subjects including operations, management, applications and programming, shaping students into industry professionals and the leaders of tomorrow.
The new Bachelor of Science in drones and autonomous systems will join the highly acclaimed Fullerton Drone Lab, the official comprehensive drone technology and pilot training program at Fullerton College, which already includes two associate degrees and four certificates. Founded in 2018 by Professor and Program Director Jay Seidel, the program prepares students for careers in a variety of fields using drones. In recent years, the Drone Lab has experienced many successes thanks to its unique presence, instruction and impact.
“Being able to provide this level of training in such a growing tech field will be transformative for both our students and for the industry,” said Seidel. “Students will be able to learn and develop quality skills and earn a bachelor’s degree in technology at an affordable price, thus making college more attainable for a greater number of students.”
Under Seidel’s leadership, the Fullerton Drone Lab developed and offers the first-ever registered apprenticeship program in the country for drone piloting, earning significant praise and being named the most built-out drone program in California.
Fullerton College will celebrate this unique milestone with a special drone light show at the 2024 Winter Fest from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3. Winter Fest is a great campus-wide opportunity to get Fullerton College students relaxed and ready for finals.
