Fullerton College transferred more students to California State University campuses in 2016-2017 compared to any other community college in California.

According to new CSU data, Fullerton College ranks No. 1 among the 114 community colleges in California with 1,500 students who transferred to the CSU system.

Additional data indicate that Fullerton College ranks No. 1 in female students who transferred to the CSU with 838, and No. 2 in the number of Hispanic students with 752 who transferred to the CSU during the 2016-2017 academic year.

“Our strong culture of transfer is part of the fabric that makes Fullerton College special,” said President Greg Schulz. “I want to thank the faculty and staff in our Cadena Cultural and Transfer Center, our outstanding team of counselors and support staff and our entire campus community of faculty and staff for their collective effort to create a culture of transfer and student success and for being radically student-centered as we serve our community.”

Fullerton College’s transfer success was also recognized by the Accrediting Commission of Community for Junior Colleges in the college’s seven-year accreditation review. According to the ACCJC’s external evaluation report released January 26, “The college is commended on the innovative development and implementation of the Cadena Cultural and Transfer Center, a fusion of both transfer and equity minded practices that promote completion and transfer of Fullerton College students.”

For the past five years, Fullerton College has consistently ranked in the top five community colleges that transfer Hispanic students to the CSU. This is due to intentional effort. In 2011, Fullerton College was one of the first community colleges to adopt a goal focusing specifically on the success rates of Hispanic students. In addition to the Cadena Cultural and Transfer Center, resources such as the Puente Program, Males Achieving Success conference, Summer Bridge, the Transfer Achievement Program, Grads to Be, Honors Program and others, support students and prospective students in achieving their goals at the college.

The Transfer Center, which is connected to the Fullerton College Cadena Cultural Center, provides services that enhance awareness of campus diversity, facilitate transfer to four-year colleges/universities, and promote student development and lifelong learning. Students have access to one-on-one counseling, group workshops and numerous events throughout the year to help them with the transfer process.
