Fullerton College Offers Numerous Summer Programs

FULLERTON (June 11, 2015) The summer semester at Fullerton College isn’t just for students attending an accelerated eight-week semester. It’s also a time for prospective students to become familiar with the college’s programs and services, an opportunity for youth to begin thinking about college as a part of their future, and a chance for the community to visit the campus and participate in one of many enrichment opportunities available to them.
Here are highlights of Fullerton College’s summer activities:
June 15 – 25: STEM Summer Camp. Open to high school and middle school students. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Camp offers youth the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning to show how STEM disciplines impact daily life. Students will build rockets, racecars, go on a field trip, learn about STEM careers, and hear from experts in the STEM disciplines. Registration is closed. June 15 – 18 & June 22 – 25: Teacher Preparation Pathway Summer Experience. Open to high school students in grades nine through 11 who have an interest in a teaching career. Students can earn college credit for Counseling 144 through the special admit policy. More information is available by calling (714) 992-7068.
June 15 – July 23 (three sessions): 2015 Fullerton College Summer Swim Lessons. Run by the men’s water polo coach and head of the FC SCUBA program, Rhett Price, Fullerton College offers one of the best summer swim programs in Southern California. Class levels range from parent & me (age three and under) to intermediate for $48 per child/per session. More information is available at www.fchornets.com.
June 15 – July 30 (one-week sessions): 2015 Hands-On Science Summer Programs. Presented by OC Biotech Education Partnership and co-sponsored by Fullerton College ENGAGE in STEM program, each one-week summer program aims to provide high school juniors and seniors with workshops in biotechnology, CSI forensic science, medical explorations, and cosmetic chemistry. June 22 – 27: Theatre Arts Department Directors Festival. A multi-genre celebration of student and faculty directed short plays and performance pieces. Best of the Fest is Saturday, June 27 at 7 p.m. Admission is free for Best of the Fest with a donation of a non-perishable food item. No tickets will be sold for Best of Fest. June 27: Tri-County Women’s Empowerment Summit. Presented jointly by the California Latino Leadership Institute, New Economics for Women (NEW) and the Fullerton College Ethnic Studies Department, this summit brings together women from Los Angeles, Orange and San Bernardino counties for a one-day conference geared toward improving the well-being of women, children and families. June 27 & July 25: 2015 Summer Concerts in the Quad. The Fullerton Community Band under the direction of Bob Anthony will present the second and third nights of a three-night concert series, which began on June 6. A collection of patriotic music and pop favorites will be performed. The Rotary Club of Fullerton and Macy’s, Inc. sponsor the free event. The community is invited to bring their lawn chairs and picnic baskets. More info at fullertoncommunityband.org/.
July 6 – 9: Summer Bridge Program. This inaugural program welcomes incoming freshmen to Fullerton College to create a smooth transition from high school to college. The program will include workshops on preparation, an overview of programs and services, and the opportunity to network with other incoming freshmen. July 7 – 21: Summer Transition Program. Designed to ease new college students’ transition to FC, this program offers students the opportunity to complete 1.5 transferable units in two weeks. Students will learn survival skills necessary for college success, build self-confidence, and learn how to utilize campus resources. Space is limited. Aug. 3 – Aug. 13: ENGAGE in STEM Summer Bridge. As part of the ENGAGE in STEM First Year Experience, students who have applied and been accepted to the program attend workshops to ease the transition from high school to college. The deadline to apply for the First Year Experience is June 30, 2015.
Aug. 3 – 20: UMOJA Math Summer Boot Camp. The UMOJA Community is sponsoring a boot camp titled “Understanding Math Objectively to Justify Achievement” for incoming and continuing students. Workshops and activities emphasizing the development of math skills and concepts will be presented. Students will also have an opportunity to connect with other students and mentors. Aug. 15: Smart Start Saturday. The campus will welcome all new and returning students on Saturday, Aug. 15. All campus services will be operational and available. Students can pick up their campus ID’s, pay fees, participate in campus tours, and receive helpful information from various campus programs to be fully prepared for the start of the fall semester.
