On Saturday, June 19, members of the Fullerton College Business & CIS and Career & Technical Education Divisions participated in the inaugural Juneteenth celebration hosted by Orange County Fourth District Supervisor Doug Chaffee. Juneteenth is traditionally celebrated by the African American community as the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. On June 17, 2021 Juneteenth was officially signed into legislation by President Joseph Biden, marking Juneteenth a national holiday. The Orange County Juneteenth celebration was held at the Anaheim Community Center Park.
“It was a beautiful day of community celebration filled with fun, laughter, food, music, African dancing, and entertainment,” said Business and CIS Professor Gwen Earle. “We also had the opportunity to share Fullerton College resources with more than 100 people in attendance.
The event featured several community resource booths, free COVID-19 vaccinations, presentations by dignitaries and acknowledgement of the purpose and history of Juneteenth. Business & CIS Professor Kenrick Kim and Nicole Cintron with Career Technical Education also volunteered to assist with the Fullerton College resource booth. Ambassador Paulette Chaffee with Supervisor Doug Chaffee’s office expressed her sincere thanks to Fullerton College for their participation.
