Fullerton College President Finalists & Open Forum
Following a national search, six finalists have been selected for the position of President at Fullerton College. The finalists will participate in an open forum at Fullerton College on October 20, 2022.

Ask the Finalists
Employees, students, and community members are encouraged to submit questions for the finalists prior to the open forum on October 20, 2022. Submissions will be reviewed for equal employment opportunity appropriateness. Related or similar questions will be grouped together and asked as one question. Due to open forum time constraints, we cannot guarantee that all questions will be presented to the candidates.

About the Finalists
Dr. Juan Avalos
Dr. Avalos has 29 years of cumulative experience in higher education including four-year private, four-year public, and two-year public institutions. He currently serves as the Vice President for Student Services at Saddleback College. In addition to 12 years as the Chief Student Services Officer, Dr. Avalos has a background that includes a four-month assignment as Acting Vice President for Instruction and a three-year assignment as Accreditation Liaison Officer for Saddleback College. He also taught as Adjunct Faculty in the Graduate School of Education and Psychology at Pepperdine University.
Dr. Avalos earned his Bachelor of Science in Applied Behavioral Science from the University of California Davis, and Master of Arts degree and Doctorate degree in Education from UCLA.
Dr. Lisa Cooper Wilkins
Dr. Cooper Wilkins currently serves as the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs at City College of San Francisco. Previously, she was the Assistant Superintendent/Vice President of Student Services and the Dean of Enrollment Services and Student Development at San Joaquin Delta College. She has also served as an Associate Vice President for Student Life, Assistant Professor and Director of the Educational Resource Center, and Dean of the Educational Support Services Division.
Dr. Cooper Wilkins earned her Doctoral degree in Higher Education Administration from George Washington University; a Master of Arts in Psychological Services from Marymount University; a Master of Science in Counseling and Human Relations from Villanova University; and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and International Relations from Goucher College.
Dr. Marshall T. Fulbright III
Marshall T. Fulbright III has more than 25 years of education experience. Currently, Dr. Fulbright serves as the Vice President of Academic Affairs at Grossmont College in El Cajon. He has previously served as an Instructional Dean at both Norco College in the Riverside Community College District and College of the Sequoias in Visalia. Dr. Fulbright began his career teaching music in elementary and high school classrooms in Southern California.
Dr. Fulbright earned his Bachelor degree in Music from Chapman University, and his Master degree in Music from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He holds a Doctorate degree in Education from Azusa Pacific University.
Dr. Michael Odu
Dr. Odu has served the community college system in various capacities for the past 30 years. Currently, Dr. Odu serves as the Vice President of Instruction at San Diego Miramar College. Previously he served as the District Dean of Mathematics, Science, and Engineering at Southwestern College. He was also a professor of Mathematics at Daytona Beach Community College and at Hillsborough Community College, both in Florida, and he is currently an adjunct professor.
Dr. Odu holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from the Florida Institute of Technology; a Master of Science in Mathematical Sciences and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from University of Central Florida; and a Associates degree in Computer Science from Daytona Beach Community College.
Dr. Cynthia Olivo
Dr. Olivo has 27 years of higher education experience, and is in her 15th year as an administrator. She is currently the Assistant Superintendent/Vice President of Student Services at Pasadena City College, which serves 23,000 students. In her previous roles at Pasadena City College, Dr. Olivo also served as the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs and Associate Dean of Counseling. At California State University, San Bernardino she served as Associate Director of Admissions and Student Recruitment.
Dr. Olivo earned her Doctorate degree in Education from Claremont Graduate University, as well as her Master degree in Counseling & Guidance and Bachelor degree in Psychology from California State University, San Bernardino.
Dr. Tina Vasconcellos
Dr. Vasconcellos’ has more than 25 years as a community college educator. Currently she serves as the Vice President of Student Services and Accreditation Liaison Officer at College of Alameda. She has also served as Dean of Academic Pathways and Student Success at Merritt College; Dean of Academic and Student Affairs at Laney College. She was also an EOPS Counselor, Instructor as well as Department Chair at Berkeley City College.
Dr. Vasconcellos earned a Ph.D. focused on Community College Leadership from Colorado State University, and a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Cultural Awareness from John F. Kennedy University.
Submit Finalists Feedback
Following the open forum on October 20, 2022, your feedback on the finalists will be requested and shared with the NOCCCD Board of Trustees and Chancellor. A link to the feedback form will be shared online and via email in the afternoon on October 20, 2022.
The deadline to submit your feedback will be 12 p.m. on Friday, October 21, 2022.
Feedback submitted after the deadline may not be taken into consideration by the NOCCCD Board of Trustees and Chancellor.
The interview process will conclude on October 22, 2022, and the Chancellor will make every effort to finalize the process and announce the decision shortly thereafter.
