Fullerton College Revises Mission Statement, Vision, Core Values
The North Orange County Community College District Board of Trustees approved a revision of the Fullerton College Mission Statement, Vision and Core Values during their regular meeting on June 13. The approval comes roughly one year after a campus workgroup began meeting to discuss changes to the current mission statement in order to meet Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) standards.
“The Mission Statement Workgroup sought to create a mission statement that addressed the four major components outlined in the ACCJC standards while accurately reflecting the spirit of Fullerton College,” said Director of Institutional Research and Planning Carlos Ayon, who served as co-chair of the Mission Statement Workgroup.
The process included brainstorming meetings, break-out sessions during the Spring 2017 Convocation, and presentations to faculty, staff and students to solicit feedback on aspects of the Mission Statement, which people felt best communicate the mission, vision, and values of Fullerton College. This led to the following revised Mission Statement:
Fullerton College advances student learning and achievement by developing flexible pathways for students from our diverse communities who seek educational and career growth, certificates, associate degrees, and transfer. We foster a supportive and inclusive environment for students to be successful learners, responsible leaders, and engaged community members.
The revision also included changes to the Vision and Core Values of Fullerton College.
Vision:
Fullerton College will transform lives and inspire positive change in the world.
Values:
Community – We promote a sense of community that enhances the well-being of our campus and surrounding areas.
Diversity – We embrace and value the diversity of our entire community.
Equity – We commit to equity for all we serve.

“Fullerton College is a welcoming, inclusive institution that offers our students exceptional opportunities to learn, grow and achieve their goals,” said President Greg Schulz. “The workgroup, with input from the college community, did a fantastic job capturing this theme in the updated Mission Statement, Vision and Core Values.”
The workgroup included representation from all constituent groups on campus; administrators, faculty, classified staff and students.
