Fullerton College Welcomes New eSports Program
The Business and Computer Information Systems Division (CIS) recently welcomed its new eSports program. The first of its kind at Fullerton College, the program is designed to engage and retain students and create meaningful overlap between the CIS and Fullerton College communities.
The program officially began in the fall 2024 semester and has welcomed its first eSports I course and eSports club in spring 2025.
An introductory course, eSports I explores the fast-paced world of gaming and the opportunity to engage in student life and co-curricular experiences. It is perfect for beginners, who are given the opportunity to play some of the top games, learn essential gaming skills, and develop strategic thinking to compete effectively. Whether students aim to play professionally or are just passionate about gaming, the course is a gateway to the dynamic realm of electronic sports.
The eSports Club has also successfully cultivated community and interest. So far, the club has participated in multiple campus-wide events, with 40 members currently enrolled.
“The eSports community at Fullerton College is more than just competition. It’s a place where students find belonging, grow their confidence, and unlock futures,” said Professor of Computer Information Systems, Carlos Antunez. “It’s where curiosity meets purpose and gaming becomes a launchpad for something bigger.”

Together, the eSports I class and club participation have laid a strong foundation, leading to the creation of eSports II. A continuation course, eSports II will build on the introduction class’s success by continuing to foster a collaborative, competitive, and challenging environment. The CIS department also anticipates holding inter-college tournaments and officially joining league play.
With the rapid growth and influence of eSports both nationally and globally, Fullerton College is developing innovative classes and certificate programs that connect eSports with technology and real-world careers. Students can explore video game programming, game design, animation, narration and storyboarding, as well as new and emerging roles in technical operations, marketing and multimedia, and project management for eSports and sporting events.
Through these ongoing efforts and continued partnerships, our Business and CIS team hopes to establish Fullerton College as both a competitor in eSports and a pillar to career pathways.
