Fullerton College Welcomes Over 21,000 Students to Fall 2020 Semester

Unlike a traditional fall semester when Fullerton College students would arrive as early as 6 a.m. on the first day of class to find parking or seek help locating classrooms and meeting spaces, the start of the fall 2020 semester will look very different for Hornets this year. That’s right, students won’t need to arrive to campus at the crack of dawn for a prime parking spot on campus; but they will need to know how to login to Canvas to access their classes and know which Zoom link to use.

Nevertheless, Fullerton College is excited to welcome more than 21,000 new and returning students to online instruction on Monday, August 24. The campus, including faculty, staff and students have been preparing for a virtual semester since late spring.

“Normally, I make it a point to visit as many classes as possible to greet our new Hornets and personally welcome them to the Fullerton College family,” said President Greg Schulz. “The safety of our students however is paramount, and so we will do that virtually this fall. I invite students to my online office hours and our monthly President’s Open Forums, which will both be on Zoom.”

In addition to multiple opportunities to interact with President Schulz, a variety of virtual student support services, including laptop loans, library and textbook resources, virtual counseling, and many other student services will continue to be available in remote formats while the campus community continues to wait out the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Additionally, the Healthy Hornet Drive-Thru and free Wi-Fi in Parking Lot 4 provides support to Fullerton College students. The Healthy Hornet Drive-Thru will continue to take place on Thursdays each week with sign-ups available Monday through Friday.

To help students navigate online instruction and all of the support available to them, a Student Resource Guide features information and quick access to resources along with a directory of phone numbers, websites, and emails to keep handy. The Fullerton College students website is also a top tool for a list of all services available to students.

Fullerton College will continue to hold virtual campus events, such as the President’s Open Forums, President’s Open Office Hour, and other department-specific virtual events during the fall semester. Read the President’s Weekly email newsletter each Monday and check back regularly here at the Fullerton College News Center to keep up-to-date.

Face-to-Face Courses | Safer Return to Campus Instructions

The majority of fall 2020 courses will be taught online. However, there are some face-to-face courses during the fall semester and new safety measures are in place for those classes. Students enrolled in those classes have been directly contacted by the college with instructions and have received instructions from their instructor. Classroom safety plans for face-to-face courses were proposed by faculty and carefully reviewed and analyzed by the respective deans, vice president of instruction and college president in accordance with state requirements and Orange County Health Care Agency guidelines.
