Honoring Our Fall 2024 Classified Professionals
Fullerton College proudly celebrates its classified staff and all their valuable contributions. In the fall 2024 semester, Classified Senate recognized two professionals with the Classified Recognition Award: Administrative Assistant III from the Physical Education Division, Sandra Chavez, and Night Custodian from the Maintenance and Operations Department, Karla Malacara.
At the daytime celebration, Chavez was honored after being nominated by colleagues. In her role, she assists the Dean of Physical Education, Dr. Beth Kelley, with administrative tasks related to class scheduling. This includes class-building in Banner, staff assignment sheets, SIAASGN/FLAC (a faculty load and compensation system), calendar management and faculty support.
“I have spent several years happily serving students, faculty and staff, as well as the general public in a variety of capacities in community college and higher education.” said Chavez. “I love working behind the scenes in an administrative assistant role and thrive in a diverse campus environment such as Fullerton College. I love the energy of the students that helps bring a campus community to life. My work gives me great joy and I am grateful to be here.”
Malacara, recipient of the award’s evening session, was also nominated by colleagues for her hard work as a custodian. Having served at Fullerton College for 10 years, she ensures that our campus is clean. Classrooms, offices, restrooms and common areas are all clean thanks to her efforts and commitment to our Hornet community.
“My favorite part of my job is to ensure cleanliness and safety for all students and staff!” said Malacara.
The Classified Recognition accolade is awarded every semester where staff are given the opportunity to nominate a colleague who has made a positive impact on campus. Recipients are honored with a special certificate at an end-of-the-semester staff celebration.
