Jim McKamy Earns District North Star Award

McKamy has a lot of history with Fullerton College, serving as a student and now as a proud member of the Campus Safety team. Congratulations on this great achievement!
Campus Safety Coordinator, Jim McKamy, was recently named recipient of the 2025 North Orange County Community College District (NOCCCD) North Star Award.
Born in Whittier and raised in La Habra, California, McKamy began his journey at Fullerton College in 1984. As a student, he quickly became involved in Associated Students, serving as a senator and gaining valuable experience in event planning and campus engagement. He then graduated in 1987 with an Associate of Arts degree in Business Administration.
In 1990, McKamy was invited to join the Campus Safety team and began as an hourly reserve officer. His commitment and leadership led to full-time service as a Classified Campus Safety Officer in 1994, and in 2004, he was promoted to Campus Safety Coordinator—a position he proudly holds today. His dedication was instrumental in organizing Fullerton College’s first Great ShakeOut evacuation drill and Active Shooter Drill, helping ensure the safety and preparedness of the campus community.
In 2022, he earned a second associate’s degree in art, walking in the commencement ceremony to the cheers of his family and alongside Buzzy—a moment he describes as one of the happiest of his life.
McKamy also met his wife Carol at Fullerton College, and they will celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary this year. Together, they share a close-knit family, including two children and two grandchildren.
The North Star Award is a testament to McKamy’s career in service, commitment and love for the Fullerton College community. He will be recognized by the Board of Trustees at the May 27 board meeting.
