Faculty, Staff Invited to Joint Meeting: Jan. 28
Faculty and staff from Fullerton College, Cypress College and the School of Continuing Education are invited to attend the Annual Joint United Faculty Academic Senate Meeting on Jan. 28 on the Fullerton campus.
The theme of the event will be “Key Issues Facing Community Colleges Today” and will address several subjects such as diversity in the hiring process, equivalency in hiring practices and faculty obligation numbers.
The event will take place in Building 1400, Room 1413 from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Lunch is included and RSVPs are not needed.
The featured guest speakers are Dr. David Morse, president of the Academic Senate for the California Community Colleges, and Dr. Lynette Nyaggah, president of the Community College Association (CCA).
Guest Speaker Bios
Dr. David Morse
President, Academic Senate for California Community Colleges
David Morse is currently serving as president of the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges. He previously served on the ASCCC Executive Committee for five years as vice-president, secretary, and south representative. During that time he chaired numerous ASCCC committees, including Resolutions, Transfer and Articulation, Curriculum, and Governance and Policy, as well as leading various task forces. In addition, he has served as co-chair of the System Advisory Committee on Curriculum (SACC) and as a member of the Intersegmental Committee of Academic Senates (ICAS). He has been the ASCCC liaison to the CSU General Education Advisory Committee, and for three years was chair of the IGETC Standards Cub-Committee of ICAS. In 2011 he served as a member of the Chancellor’s Office Student Success Task Force.
At the local level, Morse served as Long Beach City College Academic Senate president from 2005 to 2007. As senate president, he co-chaired or sat on numerous college committees, including the Enrollment Management Oversight Committee, the Education Master Planning Committee, Academic Council, Hiring Priorities, and Budget Advisory.
Morse holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English and history from the University of Michigan, a Master’s Degree in English from the University of Kansas, and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Southern California. Originally from Michigan, Morse has lived in the city of Long Beach since moving to California in 1989.
Dr. Lynette Nyaggah
CCA President
Dr. Lynette Nyaggah has taught for over 25 years at a variety of educational institutions: CSU Fullerton, bilingual kindergarten in Long Beach, the University of Nairobi in Kenya, Cerritos College as a part time faculty member, and Rio Hondo College. Nyaggah earned her B.A. in Linguistics at the University of California, Berkeley and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Theoretical Linguistics at UCLA, where she specialized in African languages. She has served as CCA board member, CCA treasurer, and CCA vice president.
