Lisa Congdon Presented as 2018 Artist in Residence

Join the Fullerton College Art Department as they present Lisa Congdon as the 2018 Artist in Residence during an opening reception on Thursday, March 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Art Gallery. Fine artist, illustrator and author Lisa Congdon is best known for her colorful paintings and hand lettering. In addition to authoring seven books, she works for clients around the world including MoMA, REI, Harvard University, Martha Stewart Living, Chronicle Books, and Random House Publishing, among many others. A selection of her work will be exhibited in the Fullerton College Art Gallery from Thursday, March 8 to Monday, April 9. For complete gallery hours, please visit the exhibition’s event page.

Congdon will also be giving artist demonstrations throughout the week from Monday, March 12 to Thursday, March 15 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. in Room 1023. Evening demos are on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. in Room 1023.  Congdon will demonstrate in many media, traditional and digital drawing, painting, and ceramic tile patterning.

On Tuesday, March 13, Congdon will give an artist lecture at 7 p.m. in the Wilshire Auditorium. Topics of this lecture include the world of illustration, the creative process, working outside your comfort zone, and Congdon’s various projects. She will also talk about the business side of art and about building your brand as an artist and has written several books about becoming a successful artist.

 

The Artist in Residence Program is a continuing project coordinated by the Fullerton College Art Department originally established in 1972.  Through this program, world-renowned artists are invited to the Fullerton College campus to exhibit their work and interact with students while providing insight into their various artistic careers.  All listed events are open to the public.
