Miranda Bates Named Director of Campus Communications

Fullerton College is thrilled to welcome its new Director of Campus Communications, Miranda Bates. Bates will oversee Fullerton College’s Office of Campus Communications and marketing efforts, with a dedicated focus on cultivating student enrollment, success and lifelong learning.

With nearly a decade of higher education communications and marketing experience, Bates is a leader in institutional branding, content development, executive communications strategy and event implementation. An expert communications strategist, she has led the development of data informed marketing campaigns that drive program awareness and growth. She is passionate about uplifting student voices, emphasizing community and promoting the exponential value of a college degree.

Bates previously served as Senior Communications Strategist, and later as Associate Director of Strategic Communications for California State University, Long Beach’s (CSULB) Office of the Provost and Division of Academic Affairs. In this role, she was chief communications officer to the Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs. At CSULB, Bates also directed and coordinated high-profile university events such as the annual convocation ceremony, launched the new Academic Affairs diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility (DEIA) website and worked alongside key divisional leadership to implement cohesive, branded communications across the division.

While at CSULB, Bates also served on the Commission on the Status of Women, Latinx Faculty and Staff Association’s Programming Committee and as the lead communicator for the Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation Center. Last year, she was also a recipient of the Exemplars of Black Excellence DEIA Award.

Prior to her role at CSULB, Bates served in several increasing roles within North Orange County Community College District (NOCCCD). First as the Public Affairs Assistant in the NOCCCD Office of Public and Governmental Affairs and then Communications and Outreach Assistant and Communications Specialist for North Orange Continuing Education (NOCE), where she specialized in developing marketing campaigns for a wide array of nontraditional student audiences and diverse noncredit programs. Bates is looking forward to returning to the district and leading Fullerton College’s communications efforts alongside her team.

Bates holds both a master’s and bachelor’s degree in English Literature and a minor in Women and Gender Studies from California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) and is the recipient of the 2021 National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) regional Rising Star Award. In her new role, Bates aims to generate greater campus visibility and serve as a key collaborator to others, both on the campus and beyond.

Fullerton College looks forward to the impact she will make on our campus and couldn’t be more excited for a new colleague to collaborate with, elevate our students and each other.
