13th Annual French Film Festival Comes Back to Fullerton College

Fullerton College’s highly acclaimed French Film Festival is back for its thirteenth year from April 8-9. Recognized as the “Paris of Orange County,” the event features a cultural hour with complimentary food, music, dance and art starting at 6:30 p.m., followed by screenings of recent French film releases at the Campus Theatre at 7:30 p.m.

Fullerton College Honored at 2025 Ballot Bowl Awards Ceremony

Fullerton College was recently honored at the 2025 California University and College Ballot Bowl competition’s virtual ceremony. A highly collaborative effort between faculty and staff, Fullerton College was awarded for generating the highest percentage of students registered to vote among all the California community colleges.

Annika Shellenbarger Named Classified Senate President 

Fullerton College congratulates Annika Shellenbarger for being named new Classified Senate President. Shellenbarger is a Classified Student Services Coordinator for the Promise Program (AB 19 Free Tuition) at Fullerton College. 

Her journey at Fullerton College started as an Outreach intern in 2017, and now she has come full circle as a HUSR internship supervisor, mentoring undergraduate students as they explore the world of student services. She strives to create a welcoming and accessible college experience, ensuring students feel supported every step of the way. Annika earned her Master of Science degree in Educational Counseling with a PPS Credential from the University of La Verne and a Bachelor of Science in Human Services from California State University, Fullerton.

90.1 KBPK Radio Evolves to Hornet Radio 

The Hornet Media team is proud to announce the official rebrand of 90.1 KBPK to Hornet Radio, marking a new chapter in the evolution of student media at Fullerton College. Hornet Radio will continue its mission of providing high-quality, student-produced content in news, sports and culture while offering a 24-hour livestream of music and programming.

Artificial Intelligence Expo Introduces Fullerton College to the Future

The North Orange County Community College District (NOCCCD) is hosting the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Expo 2025, titled “Empowering Minds: Explore the Future of AI in Education” from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16 at Cypress College. Free and open to all, the event invites students, faculty, staff and K-12 educators for the chance to learn how AI can strengthen education, careers and more.

Henry Hua Joins Wheelhouse Advancing Leaders Institute 

Vice President of Administration Services Henry Hua has been selected to participate in the University of California, Davis 2025 Wheelhouse Advancing Leaders Institute. The Wheelhouse Advancing Leaders Institute (ALI) is an annual professional growth and networking experience that develops and supports a diverse new generation of equity-focused California community college leaders. Congratulations, Henry!

Two New Committees Join Fullerton College

Fullerton College’s President’s Advisory Council saw the creation of two new committees to add to its shared governance system: the Hispanic Serving Institution Team and North Star Delegation. Baking these into our structure will ensure Fullerton College never loses sight of doing better by our students as we continue to improve our servitude. 

An Exciting Completion: Men of Color Grant Projects

Fullerton College recently finished two grant projects from private donors. The Takeoff Grant for Men of Color and our campus team were approved last week to become members of the California organization called the Men of Color Action Network.  This organization provides professional development and guidance to faculty, staff and administrators, and access to an impactful annual conference for our students. Anyone is welcome to join.  

Library Division Staff Represents Fullerton College at Women’s Day Event

Library and Learning Resources Division staff Sandy Avalos, Chynna Barnett and Monique Delatte recently represented Fullerton College at the California Community College Women’s Caucus Annual Gathering for Women’s History Month. Thanks to our team for attending and showing what our Hornet family is all about!  

Honoring Exciting Athletics Achievements

Congratulations to our following Fullerton College basketball coach and students for meeting exciting milestones:  

  • Perry Webster, men’s basketball coach, has been named the CCCAA SoCal Coach of the Year (for the 4th time).  
  • Joe Grahovac, freshman forward, was named CCCAA SoCal Player of the Year.  
  • Jaqari Miles, freshman guard, earned First Team All-State honors. 

HSI Transformation Team Paves the Way with Incredible Teamwork 

Fullerton College recently completed its Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Transformation Grant with national expert, Dr. Gina Ann Garcia. This month, they had a Performance Resource Team from the State Chancellor’s Office to check on the team’s progress. Fullerton College would like to thank Interim Vice President of Student Services, Elizabeth Martinez, for serving as the coordinating lead.  

The team was blown away with their work towards leaning into the “Servingness.” At the end of the process, our college will receive $200,000 to actualize more projects. 

Friends of Fullerton College Foundation Hits Exciting Milestones 

The Friends of Fullerton College Foundation has recently made significant strides. The foundation held its first Dining for Dollars Event and received a $22k endowment, a $174k planned giving estate gift and redirected a private grant to support the Men of Color Center and barbershop, which will open to all. It also completed filming for an Apple TV show, which brought in $52,000 in operating funds.
